Habits to Avoid After a Smile Makeover
Cosmetic and restorative dental work still needs everyday protection. The habits that help natural teeth also help preserve many restorations and support healthy gums around them.
Do not use teeth as tools
Opening packages, biting hard objects, or chewing ice can place unnecessary force on natural teeth and restorations.
Protect against clenching and grinding
If you clench or grind your teeth, tell your dentist. Repeated heavy forces can contribute to wear, chips, fractures, or damage to restorations, and an individualized protective plan may be appropriate.
Keep plaque under control
Brush with fluoride toothpaste, clean between teeth, and keep professional preventive visits. Healthy gums and good home care remain important even when the visible surfaces of teeth have been restored.
Be mindful of staining habits
Some foods, beverages, and tobacco products can stain natural teeth or affect the appearance around restorations. Whitening also does not change the color of existing tooth-colored restorations, so discuss color changes before starting a whitening product.
