Caring for Dental Crowns and Bridges
Crowns and bridges can serve for many years, but the teeth and gums around them still need daily cleaning and regular evaluation.
Clean the margins carefully
Brush around the restoration and clean between teeth every day. A bridge may require floss threaders, interdental brushes, or another method to clean underneath the replacement tooth.
Do not ignore looseness or pain
A loose crown, new sensitivity, a bad taste, or discomfort with biting should be evaluated because the supporting tooth or cement may need attention.
Protect restorations from excessive force
Avoid chewing ice or using teeth as tools. If you grind or clench, ask whether a nightguard or other protective strategy is appropriate.
