TMJ, Jaw Pain & Teeth Grinding

The temporomandibular joints connect the lower jaw to the skull. Jaw pain, limited opening, headaches, muscle tenderness, and clicking or popping can be associated with temporomandibular disorders or other conditions.

Symptoms have different causes

Jaw discomfort can relate to muscle overuse, grinding or clenching, joint inflammation, injury, bite factors, or conditions that are not primarily dental.

Evaluation guides treatment

A dentist can examine the teeth, bite, jaw movement, and muscles and may recommend conservative care, a protective appliance, additional imaging, physical therapy, or referral depending on findings.

Do not self-diagnose persistent pain

Jaw and facial pain can overlap with ear, sinus, neurologic, and other medical problems. Persistent or severe symptoms deserve professional evaluation.

Individual care matters: Treatment recommendations depend on an examination, health history, diagnosis, and individual needs. Call the office to discuss whether evaluation, treatment, or referral is appropriate.
