Gum Health
Gum Recession
Gum recession exposes more of the tooth or root surface and can contribute to sensitivity, cosmetic concerns, or greater vulnerability around the exposed root.
Why gums can recede
Recession can be associated with periodontal disease, tooth position, oral-hygiene habits, tissue characteristics, or other factors. An examination is needed to identify likely causes.
Why evaluation matters
Exposed roots can be sensitive and are not protected by enamel in the same way as the crown of a tooth. Monitoring helps determine whether the recession is stable or progressing.
Possible next steps
Care may include changes to brushing technique, treatment of inflammation, sensitivity management, monitoring, or referral for periodontal treatment when indicated.
Individual care matters: Treatment recommendations depend on an examination, health history, diagnosis, and individual needs. Call the office to discuss whether evaluation, treatment, or referral is appropriate.
