Family Dentistry Education
Pediatric Dentist vs. General Dentist
Both general dentists and pediatric dentists care about children’s oral health, but their training and practice focus are different.
General dentists
General dentists are trained to diagnose, prevent, and treat common dental conditions and many provide routine preventive and restorative care for children as part of a family practice.
Pediatric dentists
Pediatric dentists complete additional specialty training focused on infants, children, adolescents, and patients with particular developmental or behavioral needs.
Choosing the right setting
The best choice depends on the child’s age, dental needs, comfort, medical history, and whether specialty care is indicated. Willowdale can discuss whether a child can be seen in the practice or should be referred.
Individual care matters: Treatment recommendations depend on an examination, health history, diagnosis, and individual needs. Call the office to discuss whether evaluation, treatment, or referral is appropriate.
