Whitening can improve many surface and internal stains in natural teeth, but the result depends on the type of discoloration and individual response.

Restorations do not whiten the same way

Crowns, veneers, fillings, and other restorations do not respond to bleaching like natural enamel. Existing restorations may affect treatment planning when visible teeth are being whitened.
