Eating With Partial Dentures and What to Avoid

Learning to eat with a new partial denture takes time. Start slowly and follow the specific instructions given for your appliance.

Begin with manageable foods

Softer foods cut into smaller pieces can make the adjustment period easier. Chew on both sides when possible to improve stability.

Be careful with very hard or sticky foods

Foods that require excessive force or adhere strongly to the appliance can dislodge or damage it.

Report persistent sore spots

A new partial may need adjustments. Do not attempt to reshape clasps or acrylic at home.
